GAMBLING LICENSE

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالْأَنْصَابُ وَالْأَزْلَامُ رِجْسٌ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

    

90. O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan'shandwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper.

Finally the government has approved the sports gambling license to the Berjaya Corporation Bhd.

Wait, did I just said the government has approved the gambling license in this country?

The only reason why they approved it just because they want to stop the illegal sports gambling from keep operating, which in other words, the government want to stop it because the illegal gambling does not bring money to the government, so they want to do something to bring the money to them.

Then they came up with what they people called as a ‘brilliant’ idea.

The government is ‘smart enough’ to turn the situation upside down, illegal, to legal, so that it will bring benefit to the government. What they think is, instead of they keep shutting down these illegal gambling activities, why don’t they give a permit to them. This way the government can make profit by collecting tax from the gambling trader. In other words, instead of operating it illegally, the government makes it legal, give license and permit to them, then the government will get profit from the tax that they collect from this gambling business.

Wait, one question;

ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MIND?

This is an ISLAMIC country, as what our Prime Minister keeps saying. So what kind of Islamic country that allowed and gives permits so that gambling activities can be operate legally? Let me tell something, this is not LAS VEGAS!

ARE THEY KIDING US?

Let me give an example, like selling drug to the drug addicted. It is haram in Islam, just like gambling. It is an illegal activity. The government didn’t gain any profit from the illegal drug business. Why not the government also gives the permit to the drug seller to sell their drug? This way the government can also gain tax from these people who sell drugs. Why government didn’t do it? Because government knows that they doesn't want Malaysia citizen to be the drug addicted, because the government knows that drug addicted is a mess in community, because the government knows that they don’t want Malaysian citizen die because of HIV/AIDS!

But so do the gambling. Even it is different than taking drug, but still it can bring the same damage to the society! People who addicted to gambling will also be a mess in society!

What are the government expect from this? To create more professional Malaysian gambler? JOKES!

But wait, government said don’t worry to all Muslim in this country, because they will set conditions to the gambler company to not allow Muslims to involve in this activity. The government only let the non-Muslims to gamble. Don’t sell the ticket to Muslim. Put a big sign board that Muslims are not allowed to gamble. Bla…bla..bla….

That cannot be an excuse to still giving permit to gambling business to operate in this country.

If the government expects that only Chinese and India will go gambling, they definitely wrong! We all know that the majority community in our country is Malay community, while Chinese, Indians and other are only minor communities. Did u expect Berjaya Group willing to pay tax around RM10millions a year just to get a permit to let these minority communities to gamble? Of coz not! They willing to pay a huge amount of tax money because they know that the Malay people, which are the majority community in this country, will also join to gamble! The Berjaya Group willing to pay because they know that Malay people in this country will be their biggest customer in the sports gambling!

We all know that gambling is a bad habit. Malay, Chinese, Indians and all others communities know that gambling is an unhealthy habit. In fact, gambling activity will not bring any benefits to the gamblers, it will just bring benefits to the owner of the gambling business and in this case, bring benefits to the government because they can collect a tax from this gambling company.

But the truth is, it will not bring any profits to the gamblers because of many reasons. Among the reason are, instead of losing money, it will makes people become lazy and lazy, lazy to works, lazy to study, lazy to catch a dream, and lazy in everything. They just bet and bet and bet, wishing that they bet will make them rich.  Gambling activity will also increase the poverty rate in our country because people will lose a lot of money once they gamble because they will addict to the gambling. Gambling will also destroy a family institutions, it will bring fights among each other. All of these effects from the gambling activity will destroy and damage our society one day.

Yes, I know that this is not the first time government give out the permit to the gambling business. Genting Highlands also run a huge gambling business. But we all know that this is wrong. Islam teaches us not to gamble, Islam tells us at the first place that gambling is among a huge sin and it will bring down and damage the society.  So why our so called Islamic country still want to keep doing this mistake? Are we so desperate to get money to increase our tax revenue? Is it not enough from the tax that they already collect from the gambling business in Genting and the tax from the beer selling in this country?

We should remember that the tax money that government gains from this gambling business will be use for this country. It will be use to the country development including to build school and masjid, the money will be use to pay the government workers wage, the money will be use to give scholar to the student, and many more. I afraid that this tax money collecting from gambling, from profits of selling beers, is an illicit money, and we still use it for our own goods. This is so wrong. If this keeps happening, how we want to get blessing from Allah?

There are still plenty of halal ways for government to gain money, to collect tax in halal business. Our country are bless with many natural sources such as petroleum, gold, and many other sources. This all sources can bring money in halal way to the country. 

Is it because of some people are too lazy to think and so they settle down with an easy way to gain money without care of halal or haram?

It looks like the government already giving up in order to stops the illegal gambling in the country. Worst, the government make a decision to give the permit to allow the huge gambling retailers to operate in this country.

Hope this can be stopped from happening.

Let us all remind ourselves that we are an Islamic country, we should keep a good name of this title because this is very valuable title and we should proud of it.
